For the first time in its 23-year history as a public company, Microsoft's quarterly revenue has fallen from the previous year: profits have dived 32%.

In January, Microsoft said it needed to resort to its first mass lay-offs, cutting 5,000 jobs.

A new version of Windows, called Windows 7, is on its way to replace Vista.
